Abstract

|
This study was carried out to determine the effect of paclobutrazol on shoot growth, yield, fruit quality, and flower bud formation in `Fuji´ apple trees.
Shoot growth was significantly inhibited by the paclobutrazol treatment, and its effect was higher in the following year than in current year treated. Paclobutrazol effect on the inhibition of shoot growth by soil drench was continued during 3 pears.
There was no difference in yield between treated trees and untreated control in 1983 and 1984, while yield in 1985 was significantly increased by the residual effect of paclobutrazol.
Flower buds, leaf chlorophyll, and fruit colour were increased, but fruit stalk length and fruit length/diameter ratio were decreased by the paclobutrazol application in 1984.
The soluble solids and fruit colour were reduced by soil drench of paclobutrazol compared with leaf spray and control in 1985.
